Matsuzaki Shigeru // "Ai no Memory" English Translation
18th-Jan-2015 08:26 pm
Yui; "I Remember You"
I bring life back to this community!

I'm working on translating a song that was brought to my attention. It's called "Ai no Memory" by Matsuzaki Shigeru and came out in 1977, so not the most well-known song with English-speaking people lately who are dying to translate because I couldn't find anything through a Google search. XD So I thought it'd be a good quiz to try it myself!

If you could correct or clarify meanings (i.e. fix any literal translations that I tend to do at first, etc.), I'd really appreciate it! :)

You doze off in the sweet vestiges of love
Time stands still at your angelic smile
The morning light from the window gently trembles
And has dyed your hair in a hesitant tendency (Or "Tends to hesitate dying your hair in [the light]?") (1**)

Oh, beautiful life, endless joy
I give to you, my dear, my heart's palpitations
And if the day comes where
we're visited by death and turn into stars,
I still wouldn't let you go

Love is in the wind's whisper and you awake
I face your child-like eyes and [my fingers] entwine with your fingers (<-- Correct subject?)
If I softly bring your skin close,
Your kind, bright-like-a-daffodil (2**) essence makes me stop in my tracks as if I'm bashful

A beautiful life even leaves behind words (3**)
and wraps up the contented two of us
What you taught me
is most important thing in the world
is to love each other

Oh, beautiful life, endless joy
I give to you, my dear, my heart's palpitations
And if the day comes where
we're visited by death and turn into stars,
I still wouldn't let you go

Some questions:
1** I know that ためらいがち means "tend to hesitate," but I can't make sense of its meaning here or this line in the context.

2** I didn't know how else to throw this in. XD

3** I know さえ's dictionary definition, but how do you know when to use it?
