A word I can't remember nor find again:
26th-Sep-2012 12:27 am
(I'm very sorry for the trouble.)

Recently, I realised there is a word that I once knew, but now am definitely incorrectly: It is used (I think?) in the context of pinning down ('bringing to ground'?) or decisively executing a prey animal, dangerous animal, dangerous escaped prisoner, et cetera. I feel as though it has usually been encountered in the past-tense ('ta' verb ending).

However, when I try to remember its form all that comes to mind is 'tsutometa', which as far as I can tell is something completely different.

It would be a great weight off my mind to know the true word that I am currently misremembering. Thank you for your time!

Maybe 倒す(たおす)?

掴む(つかむ / つかんだ)?
捕かまる(つかまる / つかまえた)?
捕らえる(とらえる / とらえた)?

I don't know why, but somehow the correct word popped into my head while reading the list of suggestions!

The word I could only incorrectly remember as つとめる was 仕留める(しとめる / しとめた), I'm all-but-certain.
